Global Brigades is working on the implementation of the Holistic Model in Isla Boca del Rio Viejo and has already completed the water system design. To provide household connections to the whole community, the water system will have a capacity of 15000 gallons. will benefit 103 household and 484 community members
Isla Boca del Rio Viejo is located within the municipality of Marcovia in the department of Choluteca in Southern Honduras. The typical house is made of cement blocks/bricks, wood, and plastic. Children in the community have access to 6th grade. The community has access to a public handwell and only 20 households are connected to the system. Most of the community members work in fishing. The top needs expressed by Isla Boca del Rio Viejo‘s inhabitants during their initial communications with Global Brigades are a new water system, the construction of public health projects, and the establishment of a community bank.
