Global Brigades is working on the implementation of the Holistic Model in El Limoncillo but has not yet begun with the Medical Program. Now in the planning phase, the community will soon be evaluated as a candidate for Medical/Dental Brigades and the Community Health Worker (CHW) program.
El Limoncillo is located within the municipality of Potrerillos in the department of El Paraíso in central Honduras. The typical house is made of adobe, with a roof made of zinc/aluminum sheets. Children in the community have access to primary school, or up to sixth grade. The current water system in the community requires improvements to its infrastructure and storage tanks to prevent contamination from communities at higher elevations. Additionally, the distribution network requires expansion to meet demand. Most of the community members work in agriculture, especially in the production of corn and beans for local consumption. Community members have access to a community bank named El Milagro that has existed for more than fifteen years. The top needs expressed by El Limoncillo’s inhabitants during their initial communications with Global Brigades include improvements to the water system, access to health care, and in-home public health infrastructure.
